Answers：First, PPI is not a walk-in facility. If a patient is admitted, they are admitted as:
1. Voluntary Admission (Sec. 201 Admission)
2. Involuntary Admission (Sec. 302 Admission)
A voluntary admission is capable of understanding who they are, why they need help, and are generally capable of participating in developing and participating in his or her treatment.
A voluntary admission can sign themselves out of the hospital upon giving 72-hours advance notice. This notice is ostensibly required so that the facility can develop and implement an after-care plan. But, beware: a person who voluntarily admits his or her self may be held as an involuntary admit if the patient's treatment team believes that he or she may pose a danger to themselves or others. A hearing before a judge does not need to be held until several days AFTER being admitted or re-admitted (from voluntary admission). Being held involuntarily carries severe, long-term consequences to avoid if at all possible. |
