| Q&A | What are the most important issues for users?Question：Hello ,i have a son that needs to be placed in a hospital. He was at the rutherfordton county jail when he started hearing voices that was telling him he had 3 eyes so he pulled his eye out and flushed it down the toilet. How do i get help from here
Answers：I think that referring your son to Family Preservations or RHA in Spindale might be a good resource. North Carolina has cut out majority of mental health services since 2012 when NC did not expand Medicaid. Medicaid primarily paid for client services and because of cuts there are only a few psychiatric hospital. Broughton has cut out most services including long term hospitalizations. NC current theory for mental health is to get the patient stable (such as on 5th floor) at Rutherford Hospital. If you feel he is in danger of hurting others or himself, the magistrates office (bottom floor of Rutherford Co Courthouse) will do an involuntary commitment order to do a psychiatric evaluation at the hospital. You can also look into being your son’s payee if he receives Social Security and his medical powers of attorney so that you will have better control of his medical and psychiatric services.
